Sita ji’s amiability, Dialogue between King Janak and his wife & Bharat ji’s glory
After saying this, Queen Sunaina lovingly bowed at Kaushalya ji’s feet and humbly asked to take Sita ji with her. With Kaushalya ji’s gracious consent, she took Sita ji along with her.
Sita ji then warmly greeted each of Her beloved relatives according to their relationship with Her. Seeing Sita ji in hermit attire, everyone was overcome with distress and deep sorrow.
In the meantime, with Guru Vashishth ji’s consent, King Janak departed for his camp later that night. When he saw Janaki ji there, he lovingly embraced his daughter, the dearest treasure of his pure love and life.
King Janak’s heart surged with an ocean of parental affection, and his mind became like Prayag (the holy confluence of rivers) itself. Within that ocean, he beheld the imperishable banyan tree of Goddess Sita’s divine love growing ever more splendid. Upon that tree, the child-form of Shri Ram (as once revealed to Sage Markandey), the embodiment of pure love, was shining beautifully.
King Janak’s wisdom, personified as the immortal Sage Markandey, was greatly bewildered and nearly submerged in the waters of divine love, until he found support in the infant form of Shri Ram and was thus saved. Though Janak ji’s mind remained untouched by worldly infatuation, it was the splendour of his pure, untainted love for Shri Raghuveer and Sita ji that shone forth.
Overwhelmed with love for Her father and mother, Sita ji could not contain Her emotions. Yet, as the Daughter of the Earth (the very embodiment of patience), She soon regained Her composure, mindful of the significance of the moment and Her duty.
Upon seeing Sita ji in hermit attire, he was filled with love and contentment. With pride he praised, “O’ Daughter, You have sanctified both lineages of our family. Your glory shines across the world, and all acknowledge it…
…Your glorious fame has surpassed even that of the celestial river Ganga, for it has spread through countless Universes. While Ganga ji has bestowed her sanctity upon only three places on Earth (Haridwar, Prayagraj, and Gangasagar), Your virtuous renown has graced and elevated innumerable assemblies of revered Sages.”
Upon hearing Her father’s heartfelt and affectionate praise, it seemed as though Sita ji’s heart became immersed in a sea of bashfulness. Once again, Her parents embraced Her warmly, offering their loving counsel and bestowing their auspicious blessings.
Sita ji remained silent but felt a quiet unease in Her heart. She thought it would be more fitting to spend the night with Shri Ram and His mothers rather than staying with Her own parents. Her mother, sensing Her thoughts, shared them with King Janak, and in their hearts, both parents praised Sita ji’s gracious and thoughtful nature.
After embracing Sita ji repeatedly, she was respectfully escorted to Her camp. Then, at an opportune moment, the wise Queen Sunaina gently shared with the King the details of Bharat ji’s emotional state.
Upon hearing of Bharat ji’s renowned conduct, like gold imbued with fragrance and the sweet nectar of the Moon, the King was overcome with affection. Closing his eyes, a thrill passed through his body, and with joy he began to sing the praises of Shri Bharat’s splendid reputation.
King Janak said, “O’ Beautiful-faced, lovely-eyed Sunaina, listen closely, the glorious tale of Bharat has the power to free people from the cycle of worldly existence. I do have some understanding of righteousness, politics, and contemplation of the Supreme, according to my intellect,…
…but my mind cannot attempt to describe Bharat’s glory. Even with the cleverest expression, it could not touch the shadow of his fame. Lord Brahma, Lord Ganesh, the King of Serpents (Shesh ji), Lord Shiv, Goddess Sharda (Saraswati ji), poets, scholars, pundits, and wise men,…
…all take delight in hearing and reflecting upon Bharat’s character, renown, deeds, righteousness, gentleness, virtues, and sacred fame. His character surpasses the purity of the Ganga river and the sweetness of nectar…
…Bharat holds countless virtues beyond compare, and only Bharat can truly be measured against himself. To equate him with anyone or anything else would be like describing the mighty Sumeru mountain as something weighing merely a kilogram. Even the minds of poets falter when attempting to capture the vastness of Bharat’s virtues…
…O’ Fair-skinned lady, to describe the virtues of Bharat is as impossible as a fish attempting to walk on dry land. Lord Ram Himself knows the extent of Bharat’s fame, yet even He is humbled when it comes to expressing the boundless glory of Bharat, O’ Queen.”
In this way, King Janak, after extolling Bharat’s greatness and honouring his wife’s innermost feelings and heart’s desire, proclaimed, “Lakshman should return to Ayodhya, and Bharat should accompany Ram to the forest. This decision will be beneficial for all and is what everyone, deep in their hearts, truly wishes for…
…But, dear Lady, when it comes to Bharat and Ram, no one can fathom the depth of love and trust they share. Bharat’s affection and warmth are boundless, while Shri Ram’s self-control is beyond measure…
…Bharat’s sole, unwavering devotion is at the feet of Shri Ram. He has no desire for either worldly pleasures or spiritual accomplishments, nor does he seek personal comforts, even in his dreams. His only duty and ultimate purpose in life is devotion to Ram’s feet. Such is my reflection on Bharat in my thoughts…
…Bharat will never disobey Shri Ram’s orders in his heart. Therefore, we should not worry, under the influence of affection,” the King spoke firmly with conviction.
In this way, as King Janak and his Queen lovingly recounted the countless virtues of Shri Ram and Shri Bharat, the night passed swiftly. With the break of dawn, both parties awoke, and after bathing, they began their worship of the Gods.
After bathing, Shri Raghurai went to His Guru and bowed at Guru Vashishth’s feet. With his permission, Shri Ram spoke, “O’ Lord, Bharat, the citizens, and all the mothers are weighed down with grief and are facing great hardship during their stay in the forest…
…Even the King of Mithila, together with his people, has endured the hardships of the forest for many days. Therefore, please act as you deem appropriate. The well-being of all rests in your hands.”
Saying these words, Shri Raghuveer became deeply modest. Seeing His humility, Sage Vashishth was overwhelmed with love. He said, “O’ Ram, without You, all abundance and pleasures are like hell to the people of both royal camps…
….You are the life of all lives, the soul of every soul, and the source of true happiness. My dear, for those who find joy in their homes without You, fate has surely turned against them…
…Where there is no love for Shri Ram’s lotus feet, let such happiness, deeds, and duties be reduced to ashes. Where love for Shri Ram is not supreme, all yogic practices are worthless, and all knowledge turns into ignorance…
…Without You, people are left in sorrow, and whatever joy they find comes only through Your grace. You know the innermost depths of every heart, and Your command is supreme, everyone will accept and follow whatever You say. O’ Compassionate One, You are fully aware of everyone’s condition…
…Hence, You may now return to the hermitage,” said the Chief of Sages, his body overcome with emotion. Shri Ram then bowed to Guru Vashishth and departed. Regaining his composure, the Sage turned and went to meet King Janak.
